Dr. Casey Onik , D.O.

Dr. Casey Onik is now available to see patients in Falmouth.    His educational background also includes a master's degree in public health, training in Jungian psychotherapy, herbs, supplements, homeopathy, and specialty training in osteopathic manipulation, including cranial osteopathy.  He is, of course, also well versed in medical cannabis.

For this reason, I am excited that many of you will have the opportunity to experience the healing power of a good osteopathic treatment and integrative medical recommendations by Dr. Onik.

Unlike chiropractic and even other types of osteopathy, cranial osteopathy applies very gentle and precise forces to the head, tailbone, and other parts of the body.  The physician synchronizes with the healing system of the patient and works in conjunction with the wisdom of the body.  Thrusting maneuvers and more aggressive techniques are used only when absolutely necessary.

Most people do not realize that the head and its contents are designed to move, in a subtle expansion/contraction fluctuation present at all times, and that good health requires the presence of this motion.  Head injuries, surgery, dental work, and other traumas, including emotional trauma, can significantly impair cranial motion.  Over time the central nervous system becomes unable to function optimally and health deteriorates.

Cranial osteopathy is especially useful in treating chronic musculoskeletal pain.  I have seen amazing results in patients with chronic headache, back and neck pain, nervous system disorders such as multiple sclerosis, and psychological conditions such as anxiety.  Because this treatments works on the cause of illness, rather than putting a bandage on the effects, the positive effects are usually long lasting.  Most people report profound relaxation and sense of well-being immediately after the treatment, and over the next few days pain and other bothersome symptoms disappear as the health expresses itself more freely.

 Lynne Nichols, NP

Lynne is a Nurse Practitioner and a proud native Mainer. During her clinical rotations as an NP student, she sought clinical learning opportunities that would align both her personal values around healing and wellness and her clinical practice. At the suggestion of a Nurse Practitioner mentor, she was directed to Dr. Sulak’s practice.

A healing clinical practice requires time with patients, intuition, generosity of spirit, a sense of humor, and most importantly perhaps, the skills of listening and observation. Lynne believes each of us ultimately knows what is in our own best interest for health and wellbeing. To this end, she makes every attempt to nurture that power within each of her patients.

Lynne shares that "weekly, if not daily, I encounter patients who have convinced themselves that medicinal marijuana is a viable, safe healing modality. Many of my patients are at the end of their rope and out of options concerning their chronically debilitating conditions. They are “sick and tired of being sick and tired”. It is my honor to receive them and their stories with an open heart, an open mind, and to guide their journey to wellness."

Lynne recently co-authored the article "Flying by the seat of our pants: What dementia family caregivers want in an advanced caregiver training program", published in Research in Nursing & Health, 2012, 35, 598-609. She enjoys riding in the Trek Across Maine in support of the Maine Lung Association. She owns a NutriBullet Blender and uses it daily.
